Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manual Machinist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating and maintaining manual machining equipment, including lathes, mills, and grinders, to produce precision parts and components according to specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of machining principles, blueprint reading, and quality control to ensure high standards of workmanship and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual machining equipment, including engine lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and surface grinders.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine machining requirements.
- Measure, mark, and align workpieces and cutting tools for precision machining.
- Perform turning, milling, drilling, tapping, boring, and other machining operations as required.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Monitor machining processes to ensure proper tool wear, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Troubleshoot and adjust machine operations to correct defects and maintain product quality.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and team members to meet production goals and deadlines.
- Perform routine maintenance on machines and report any malfunctions or needed repairs.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school training preferred.
- Minimum [X] years of experience as a manual machinist or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of machining principles and techniques.
- Proficiency with manual lathe, mill, and other conventional machining equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience with precision measuring tools and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Ability to lift up to [X lbs] and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with custom or prototype machining.
- Knowledge of various metals and machining speeds/feeds.
- Basic welding or fabrication experience a plus.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
